“The Mountains are Calling…”
Julie Trail invites everyone to see a new collection of paintings she has created to celebrate her love of the mountains just up the hill from her home in Sutter Creek. “The Mountains are Calling…”, words from John Muir, speak to Julie every time she picks up a paintbrush, as she has loved mountains ever since her first view of the Rocky Mountains when she was 17 years old.
“To live within an hour’s drive of such beautiful mountains as the Sierra is a dream come true,” Julie says. She moved to California from the east coast in 1992, and since then has spent every minute possible in the Sierra, hiking, fishing, camping, skiing, and painting! In 2001, after moving to Sutter Creek, Julie began to fulfill her lifelong wish to become a serious artist. Watercolor is her first love, and she paints daily.
Julie has won many awards for her watercolors, and she continues to learn new ways to express in watercolor the beauty of the world that surrounds us in the Sierra Foothills. When painting en plein air, Julie often uses her oil paints, a medium she also enjoys, and she often brings her plein air paintings back to the studio to use as reference for a larger watercolor painting.
Julie’s new collection of watercolors reflects her love of the high country landscape. Be sure to take time and see these beautiful paintings. A reception in honor of Julie will be held at Gallery 10 on Saturday, June, 7, 2018, 2-
